The Dads Who Show Up: A Documentary That Needs to Be Seen
documentary about dads who stand up for their trans children has premiered at SXSW. This is what unconditional love and acceptance looks like, and it belongs in my Hall of Fame.
This is exactly the kind of story I want to celebrate and share. A documentary called The Dads, executive produced by Dwyane Wade and supported by Elevate Prize, has just premiered at SXSW, and it follows a group of fathers who have chosen to stand alongside their trans children at a moment when doing so takes real courage. These are dads who could have looked away, who could have chosen an easier path, and who chose instead to show up, to march, to speak out, and to love their children without conditions. What makes this even more meaningful is that the film will also give back to the Ali Forney Center in New York, a vital community safe haven for LGBTQ+ young people experiencing family rejection or homelessness. At a time when trans youth need support more than ever, here are dads building the world their children deserve. That is what acceptance looks like in practice, and I am putting The Dads and everyone behind it firmly in my Hall of Fame.
